I will talk about toxic (heavy) metals and minerals.
In the pathogenesis of autism, heavy metal elevation was very prominent in the 1980s. Perhaps the deep mystery inherent in autism had led to this outcome. However, after the 2000s, multifaceted and in-depth research on autism, particularly brain autopsies conducted on special cases post-mortem, have shown the existence of different points in the pathogenesis of autism.
Recently, in children with autism, no elevated levels of heavy metals such as mercury, lead, aluminum, arsenic, and cadmium were detected in either intracellular or extracellular heavy metals and minerals measurements from plasma samples using the ICP MS method. On the contrary, the simultaneous deficiency of zinc and selenium was determined, which should be interpreted very carefully. It shows important findings.
