In individuals with autism, a number of problematic behaviors, primarily characterized by consecutive meaningless (stereotypical) movements, are entirely rooted in medical reasons and are performed involuntarily (autonomically). From this point, two conclusions arise from this matter.
- Social outcomes
2. Medical outcomes
1. From the perspective of Social Outcomes, it can be examined from two angles;
a) For healthy individuals who are in contact with and around a person with autism; they must be extremely tolerant and patient towards the involuntary autonomous behaviors of the autistic individual and should not react negatively.
b) If we consider the issue from the perspective of the parents of an individual with autism; parents should never prioritize these types of autonomic problem behaviors over more important aspects, especially the development of speech and the ability to initiate and maintain social interactions, in the monitoring and observation of the individual’s progress and improvement processes.
